Place Perspective
Place Textiles was launched in January 2006 by Kristie Strasen who is founder and creative director of the company. (See Kristie Strasen Biography for more information.) Place produces high-end upholstery fabrics marketed to the residential and commercial design trade. Place fabrics are distinguished for their quality of materials, design integrity and distinctive palette. Place is a transitional line that transcends specific styles and offers tremendous versatility for use in any interior where high quality fabrics are a must.
With the introduction of the first “Sense of Place” collection in 2006, Strasen launched a benchmark line that represents her personal style – clean and uncluttered. The Place Textiles aesthetic is focused on color and texture rather than pattern – further reflecting Strasen’s technical background as a weaver AND her preference for upholstery to recede in environments filled with beautiful furniture, art, carpets and collectibles. Strasen often tells designers that “Place is a line of high-quality basics intended to be used over and over again with other things you love – including fabrics!”
Subsequent collections (See Place Collection Descriptions) have secured the Place position for emphasizing color and texture over pattern. Each introduction revolves around carefully calibrated color families that continually evolve with a keen eye on continuity and consistency. The Place color palette always includes a beautiful range of usable neutrals as well as a wonderful range of pure, clean colors. All the color families are offered in an expansive variety of texture and luster and can be combined in ways that make them suitable for all types of interiors from modern to traditional.
In spite of this strong focus on color and texture, each collection always includes one stunning pattern intended for dramatic accent. Place patterns are both unique and classic, sometimes lending an air of whimsy, sometimes sophistication, but always a perfect foil to the woven textures that carry the line. Strasen loves unexpected combinations and juxtapositions and Place offers those possibilities. Upholstering that modern chair with the antique-looking velvet or covering the dainty Victorian settee with a chunky boucle can make life interesting.
Place introductions reflect the influences that have played a significant role in Kristie Strasen’s attitude toward color and design. All collections and patterns are named for a “place” with a story that Kristie loves to share.
