Verona | Old Silver Adds Drama to Moon Festival

This stunning cut velvet brings the luxury of Rococo to the 21st century. The pattern, while suggestive of a formal frame damask, has a certain whimsy that refuses to be stuffy. The net result is luxury that can be casual or formal. Verona will be equally at home in a Park Avenue apartment or a cabin in Vermont.

Because of the classic character of Verona, “Old Silver” has been added to the existing palette of six other colors as the perfect new hue for 2012.

Celebrate Moon Festival

Place Textiles is pleased to announce the introduction of Moon Festival – a new collection taking its inspiration from an ancient Chinese tradition that found its way to Thailand over 3000 years ago. The Moon Festival as celebrated in Thailand honors the summer harvest and pays homage to the moon. Lanterns are set afloat in the sea and launched into the sky. People celebrate their good fortune and let go of negative thoughts. Dragons dance and lanterns flicker and those celebrating look forward to their future fortune.

Like the Moon Festival itself, this collection celebrates the luminous colors of the moon in a glowing palette of silver and gold hues. Beautiful, lustrous yarns catch and reflect light in a way that brings these shimmering fabrics to life. The natural luster of Moon Festival will combine beautifully with more matte materials and provide a soft, sophisticated range of colors and textures suitable for residential and commercial applications.

As with all Place introductions, the Moon Festival fabrics provide excellent performance – meeting and exceeding typical performance codes for commercial fabrics. This durability factor, combined with a soft hand and an elegant aesthetic – makes the Moon Festival fabrics highly appealing in a residential setting as well.

	Dragon Dance This pattern takes its inspiration from the rickrack profile of a dragon’s tail. Lustrous yarns are employed to give a polished sheen to this rhythmic vertical stripe. Perfect for upholstery of all types including drapery and wall applications, Dragon Dance will add a hint of drama to any interior.
	Future Fortune The shimmering surface of this fabric is achieved by using extremely fine yarns of exceptional luster and playing them off one another in a tiny check. Named for the festival that encourages the casting away of negative thoughts, Future Fortune is imbued with a sense of good fortune and happy destiny. It is ideal for headboards, pillows, walls and seating.
	Sky Lantern The marvelous texture of Sky Lantern is made possible by a wonderfully chubby yarn that is bound into place with a very fine warp. The result is a fabric that has the cloud-like appeal of a mackerel sky with a sophisticated glow cast over the surface. Sky Lantern will be beautiful on lounge pieces or any application where distinctive texture is a requirement.

Warm Weather Blast

Glass & Steel House, Palm Springs, California

As the cold weather sets in, it is nice to remember those lovely places that stay warm while the rest of us are bundling up against ice storms, bitter wind and snow in October. Above is just such a place, nestled in the beautiful Palm Desert of Southern California. This wonderful undulating sofa was designed by renowned Palm Springs designer Christopher Kennedy and features Place Textiles – Veneto Stripe | Rainforest on the backrest.

If you have a little mad money, you can actually rent the Glass & Steel House in Palm Springs and host a warm-weather party of your very own! Please invite me – I would love to come!!!

Stay Cool

I love summer! It is my favorite season because I am one of those odd ducks – or maybe I should say lizards (!) who love hot weather. This summer, we have all been hammered by extremely hot weather, which brings to mind the wonderful attributes of linen and cotton. When the temperature goes up, linen and cotton are a perfect choice – not only for wearing, but for sitting on! Both are cellulose fibers that have a natural ability to absorb moisture. They are cool to the touch and can be spun and woven in a variety of ways, making them both versatile and very comfortable.

Check out our wonderful linens and cottons and think about warm summer days. You may not love the hot weather as much as I do, but as I heard the other day – “you don’t have to shovel heat!”

PLACE at the D & D

Place was given the opportunity by Pollack – our New York showroom, to design a lobby window at the
D & D Building. Needless to say – we were excited! As you can see, it is a summer theme that emphasizes the importance of color in the Place collection. And all those books?- They are books about “color” and “places” that are part of the Place library.

The walls are covered with Retablo | Dune, the classic Aalto chair is in Veneto Stripe | Aegean. The pillows are Petaluma and Meer and the hanging flags combine Balmory and Killarney with coordinating colors of Retablo. We love the outcome – hope you do too.

Classic seating by Ward Bennett, Mark Goetz, Khodi Feiz and BassamFellows were upholstered with linens (Arranmore and Havana) and wool (Clare) from Place. The result was a showroom with a Zen-like calm that provided welcome respite from the intense NEOCON pace.
